Hard-Fi: Hometown Hi-Fi
Here's a band that I kinda started liking until they released that Cash Machine track and they went down in my estimation! Despite that, this mix by their tour DJ WrongTom has a eclectic mix of indie, house, reggae and hip-hop - something that I wouldn't necessarily identify with their style of music. Their new album seems to be causing a fuss all over their choice of artwork (or lack of it), it stinks of laziness to me instead of being the new "White Album". Given away free with the June 2006 issue of Mixmag.
1 Billy Bragg - A New England
2 The Nextmen - Blood Fire
3 Harry J. All Stars - Liquidator (Trojan Sound System Mix)
4 Hard-Fi - Dubbed Up Too Tight
5 Ricky Ranking & Roots Manuva - Doogoo Machine
6 Eek-A-Mouse - Wa Do Dem
7 Danger Mouse & Jemini - Ghetto Pop Life
8 Coldcut - True Skool (Spank Rock Remix)
9 Jimmy Screech - Live Love And Learn
10 The Kills - No Wow (MSTRKRFT Remix)
11 Franz Ferdinand - The Fallen (Ruined By Justice)
12 Uffie - Ready To Uff
13a Spank Rock - Rick Rubin
13b Hard-Fi - Hard To Beat (Acappella)
14 Joe Smooth - Promised Land
Hard-Fi: Hometown Hi-Fi (Part One)
Hard-Fi: Hometown Hi-Fi (Part Two)
Little note at bottom bit: I'd say sorry for the lack of posting but I'm not really - sometimes I just can't be arsed with it! (especially seeing that my computer is so wank - it's crashed twice just trying to complete this post). Although I am sorry that I don't have enough time to do this as often as I'd like. This blog had a mention in The Guardian Guide which should have got my arse into gear but didn't! Anyway I've got a bit more time on my hands now my girlfriend has left me to go travelling so hopefully the posts will be more frequent than 3 months apart...

Gilles Peterson - Smell The Grass
The festival season is almost upon us, so here's a "festival themed" (i.e. sponsored by Wireless festival) mix by Gilles Peterson from Mixmag in July 2005.
"Born in Paris and raised in London on a diet of Gauloises, cider and fish & chips, Gilles Peterson began to collect rare Polish electronica as a teenager, making in-roads into the burgeoning rare groove and soul scene at clubs such as Cat's Whiskers in Streatham. And whilst he's best known for playing weird records before Carl Cox at Space and a glorious mid-90's stint running Talkin' Loud Records - where he signed Roni Sie and MAW's "Nuyorican Soul" project - he's a much into his acid as he is into his jazz, as this CD testifies."
01 Dwight Trible and The Life Force Trio - Celestial Blues (1:48)
02 Ammoncontact - A Satellite's Return (3:39)
03 Roots Manuva - Too Cold (Sa-Ra Remix) (3:38)
04 Lady Sovereign - Random (A. Brucker & Sinden Mix) (3:44)
05 Stereotyp Meets Al Haca - Blaze 'N' Cook (6:17)
06 DJ Rogal and Wunmi - Silly Questions (5:20)
07 Recloose - Dust (7:00)
08 Plant Life - When She Smiles She Lights The Sky (4 Hero Mix) (4:35)
09 Basement Jaxx - Daluma (6:00)
10 Âme - Engoli (6:11)
11 Phonique - 99 & A Half (I:Cube Mix) (Mixmag Edit) (4:39)
12 Roman Flügel - Geht's Noch? (2:19)
13 Mathew Jonson - Decrompression (7:44)
14 Sa-Ra - Glorious (4:38)
Gilles Peterson - Smell The Grass (Part 1)
Gilles Peterson - Smell The Grass (Part 2)
Postscript: Again I've been really slack about posting - my computer is bollocks (it's already crashed 3 times doing this!) and it can be a real pain in the arse uploading stuff (cos the internet connection goes down every time I get up to make a cup of tea which is quite often). Plus I've been sidetracked by Facebook, if anyone wants to give us a shout on there then let us know, keep posting the odd track up there...

Armand Van Helden - New York Loft Party
Given away with the October 2004 edition of Mixmag, this "15 track mix of classic remixes and monster anthems" has a couple of interesting cover versions at the start and ends with a side project of Stuart Price's (Les Rythmes Digitales/Zoot Woman) on Kitsuné.
How New York can you get? Based in the epicentre of the coolest spot in NYC, Armand lives in a studio/lounge set-up overlooking the city. The skyline itself is impressive enough, but it's even more inspiring when you realise that it's the loft where songs like "I Can Smell U" and "Witch Doktor" were spawned.
1 Nice Cream - Song 2
2 Evers B. - Get Ready
3 Metal Fusion - Killing In The Name
4 Jark Prongo - Running Wild
5 Stupid Fresh - This Is Freaky
6 Chicken Lips - Do It Proper (King Roc Mix)
7 Armand Van Helden - Hear My Name (Instrumental Edit)
8 Full Intention - It's Set To Groove
9 Felix Da Housecat - Cyberwhore (Armand Van Helden Remix)
10 Armand Van Helden - I Can Smell U
11 Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix)(Edit)
12 Sneaker Pimps - Spin Spin Sugar (Armand's Dark Garage Mix)(Edit)
13 Spektrum - Kinda New (Tiefschwarz Dub)
14 Linus Loves - Night Music
15 Man With Guitar - Man With Guitar

Pete Tong's Deep Funk Theory
The only time I think about putting stuff on the site these days is when I have something else to do, again am in the middle of writing an assignment but am so easily distracted! Given away with the September 2000 issue of Mixmag.
This is Pete Tong at the top of his game, delivering deep, underground music from the darker corners of the nation's dancefloors. This mix contains the kind of tunes that Tongy has championed in his Mixmag column over the last 18 months and in sets at clubs including Bugged Out! and Bedrock. He calls this music 'wet and hard' but we're too scared to ask what he means. Tom Whitwell, Mixmag
1 Lemon Interupt - Bigmouth (6:02)
2 Peace Division presents Dark Days - Feel My Drums (3:47)
3 Peace Division - BE U 4T (3:29)
4 H-Foundation - Hear Dis Sound (5:47)
5 The Aloof - Doing It For Money (Peaking Dub) (5:17)
6 DJ Garth presents - Twenty Minutes Of Disco Glory (The Acid Rock Mix) (5:00)
7 DJ Technique - My Definiton (Lee Coombs Acid House Breaks Mix) (4:57)
8 Oscar Goldman - Thrust 2 (2:58)
9 The Armadillos - Drop & Hope (5:50)
10 Slide - Closure (5:09)
11 Pariah - Ruffneck Rhythm (4:53)
12 Boom! - Everybody Rock It (Peace Division's Boomin' Dub Mix) (4:38)
13 Morel - True (The Faggot Is You) (16B Remix) (5:01the)
14 Corvin Dalek - Gimme Two Fingers (4:31)
15 Timo Maas - Psycho Phunk (5:56)
16 Bushwacka! - Healer (3:20)

Baby Ford - Ford Trax
Wayne's cousin Tommy gave me this album on tape, they lived in one of the shittiest areas I've ever had the pleasure of visiting, remember going round to an acquaintances house and having to wipe my feet on the way out! I also saw Baby Ford support Inspiral Carpets but can't remember much of it... Anyway here's a vinyl rip of an album which I've struggled finding again... acid house will never die!
A1 | I Love It | |
A2 | Oochy Koochy (Konrad Cadet)
B1 | Crashing | |
B2 | New York | |
B3 | Fordtrax | |
C1 | My Innersence | |
C2 | Chikki Chikki Ahh Ahh (Promo Mix)
D1 | Flowers | |
D2 | Reprise |

Select at The Heavenly Social: Mixed by Jon Carter
After the commencement of my current career I bought my Sony Walkman & it's weird to think that it's the same Walkman that's recording this that I was listening to 10 years ago walking to work. Some fantastic tracks from Mr Carter given away free with the July 1996 issue of Select Magazine.
